Ecosystem assessment for the wetlands of Moreton Bay

Mapped distribution of the mangrove,  saltmarsh and seagrass ecosystems of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. Maps also show the minimum convex polygon enclosing all occurrences of ecosystems (orange line), and all occupied 10-km2 grid cells (dark grey). Ecosystem distributions (i.e. polygons) are expanded to aid visualisation.

The role of vegetated coastal wetlands for marine megafauna conservation

Heatmaps of biodiversity for 172 of the 174 marine megafauna identified as having an association with seagrasses, mangroves, or saltmarshes for the three geographical regions with the most species [to aid visualization; (A) Asia Pacific; (B) Africa and Europe; and (C) North and South America]. The blue dots represent locations of field studies from the literature review, and the graded colors represent species richness.

Indian Sundarbans mangrove forest considered endangered under Red List of Ecosystems

The Red List of Ecosystems is the global standard for assessing ecosystem collapse. The outcome for the Indian Sundarbans is Endangered, driven by historical clearing. The trend of clearing and degradation has since drastically slowed, giving cause for optimism.
